MIXED-USE GEHRY-KILLER IN WEHO STARTING WORK WAY EARLY

Here’s a bit of a novelty: work is expected to begin on the mixed-use Domain West Hollywood this fall, much earlier than expected (although it has also been delayed plenty in its time). When the project was up for approvals, WeHo planning commissioner John Altschul assured residents concerned about the building boom around La Brea that Domain’s groundbreaking was still years away. That was in May. But today Dallas-based developer Trammell Crow announced that they’ve bought the project, and Wehoville says demolition will start this fall with construction beginning in the spring and expect to wrap up two years after that.

When it opens, Domain West Hollywood will add 166 new residential units, groundfloor retail, “resort-style amenities,” and a giant portal through which to view the Hollywood Hills. This is the development, you may recall, slated for the (only modestly toxic) site of Faith Plating, notable for being one of the largest replaters of chrome bumpers, and also for being based out of a very early, very boring Frank Gehry building.
